Winery – Vinas mora
Vinas Mora was founded in 2020 by 2 friends Kreso & Niko.
Both with wine making & importation experiences, fascinated with Primosten & Babić, convinced about it’s potentials.
At the begining wine making was strictly based on grapes from small local farmers. Work in cellar is done according old principals and wine is done like centuries ago.
Different attitudes allows different times of picking and all process is done as same as working with micro quantities.
For Babić wines, All grapes are destemmed and macerated in bigger open casks for 4-6 days without any control.
Fermentations are very powefull & fast, during process stiring is done 4-5 times per day.
Pressing is done gently and majority of wines is aged in bigger fiberglass and smaller part in used oak barrels.
Wines were never fined or filtered.
Annual average total production is 65.000 bottles.
Primosten terroir is very unique & could be explained by different facts.
Is the most western part of croatian land situated in adriatic sea, point were 2 tectonic plates collides & push land from the mountain in to the sea.
This kind of activity formed cracks in rocks filled with red clay and some underground caves where water goes from Mountain to the sea.
This type of subsoil permits Babic to survive without any rainfall as there are no rainfalls from May till October.
Primosten as border zone between North & South stays always windy and practically borders north dry and south humid winds.
Therfore work in vinyards are mostly without spraying and way of plantations are very typical and old.
In past work was very severe, local farmers were taking out rocks with bare hands, creating very small gardens or clos with just couple of vines per clos. The rest of rocks were used to create walls that protects vines from winds and protect the soil.
This type of bush plantations in clos are called ‘Vlačice’ and them on some sites near the sea are Unesco heritage protected.
Work of course could be only done by hand, is impossible to use any kind of mechansation.
